In a show of magnanimity and appreciation, IG Aguowu Health and Academic Foundation have given scholarships and cash prizes to Team Anambra, for winning the 2023 International Debate Competition in Malaysia and making the state proud.
Each member of the debate team was presented with a comprehensive scholarship running from their current level of study to the University level and a cash prize of a hundred thousand Naira.
Additionally, a healthcare scheme was provided to support their well-being. The State Debate Coordinator, Mrs Amaka Anekwe received a cash award of One million naira while the team’s coaches Mr Chigozie Udorji and Mr John Onuigbo received a cash prize of five hundred thousand Naira respectively.
The event took place at the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Education, Udorji State Secretariat Complex, Awka in a ceremony witnessed by directors of the Ministry of Education and many education enthusiasts.
Chief Ignatius Aguowu, the visionary behind the foundation, announcing the scholarship package to the recipients expressed his gratitude to Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Soludo, for fostering an enabling environment for education in the state.
He further stated that the achievement of Team Anambra was a source of pride for the state, as it showcased the excellence fostered within its schools. Reacting, the Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, lauded Chief Ignatius Aguowu for his philanthropic initiatives, emphasizing his significant role in providing educational opportunities through its scholarship scheme to hundreds of students who would have dropped out of school due to financial challenges.
She commended the foundation for undertaking and completing the renovation work at Ezike High School, Nibo, which underscores its commitment to holistic educational development. Commissioner Chuma-Udeh called on other education-focused philanthropists to help advance the state’s mission of producing globally competitive students who contribute meaningfully both abroad and at home.
The Principal of Capital City Secondary School, Awka, and the State Debate Coordinator, Mrs. Amaka Anekwe, who shared insights into the team’s journey to victory said it was no mean feat as the team battled strong opponents from the state level, and national level to international level.
She further disclosed that team Anambra has been winning laurels for the state across the globe and has become a force to be reckoned with in the field of debate.
She acknowledged the robust support from Mr Governor, Prof. Soludo, and Commissioner of Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh.
Their unwavering support undoubtedly propelled the team’s performance on the global stage, she stated.
In his closing remarks, Mr.Jovita Arazue, President of Ancopps, Anambra State, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the IG Aguowu Foundation for its dedication to recognizing hard work and nurturing excellence in education.
IG Aguowu Health and Academic Foundation, Chief Ignatius Aguowu’s Visionary initiative has already impacted over two hundred and twenty pupils at various academic levels with a further one hundred and forty students expected to join the scheme in September this year.
The event is a pointer to the foundation’s commitment to fostering excellence in education through its scholarship program, thereby transforming the lives of countless deserving students, said Dr A.A.Dilibe, Lawyer to the Foundation.
