Commissioner Cracks Down on Illegal Levies,Exam Malpractice,Charges Principals on Accountability - Anambra Ministry of Education

Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ekene Ogugua, has reaffirmed the state’s commitment to quality education, warning Principals of Public Secondary Schools against imposing illegal levies on parents and condoning examination malpractice.

Speaking during a familiarisation meeting with principals at the ASUBEB Hall, Awka, the Commissioner reminded school administrators that they are the face of government in their respective schools and must demonstrate exemplary leadership, discipline, accountability and transparency.

Dr. Ogugua stressed that Governor Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s free education policy must be fully implemented, warning that any action capable of undermining the policy would no longer be tolerated. He also charged Principals to safeguard government facilities, maintain proper financial records and ensure public schools do not become centres for examination malpractice.

The Commissioner further called for stronger collaboration with Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), Old Boys’ and Old Girls’ Associations, and host communities to address challenges facing schools and drive the state’s educational transformation agenda.

During the interactive session, principals highlighted key challenges, including inadequate infrastructure, shortage of teachers and non-teaching staff, insecurity, insufficient school buses and limited digital facilities. Dr. Ogugua assured them that the Ministry would look into the concerns.

In her vote of thanks, the Chairman of ANCOPSS, Anambra State Chapter, Mrs. Hope Ezeani, assured the Commissioner of the principals’ unwavering support in advancing Governor Soludo’s vision of making Anambra Nigeria’s leading education hub.
