Anambra Teacher Emerges Africa’s Overall Best ICT-Driven Teacher, Reaffirms State’s Excellence in Education - Anambra Ministry of Education

Anambra State has recorded another major achievement in education as Mr. Ifetike Chekwube Hope, a technical teacher at Government Technical College, Onitsha, emerged the Overall Best ICT-Driven Teacher in Africa 2026.

Ifetike received the prestigious recognition at the African Teachers Excellence Award (ATEA) Gala Award Night, held as part of the African Teachers Festival 2026 at the UBEC Digital Centre, Abuja, on Friday, August 21.

The award places Anambra among states receiving continental recognition for teacher excellence and digital innovation, highlighting the growing capacity of its teachers to excel in modern, technology-driven education.

An elated Ifetike expressed gratitude to God for the recognition, describing it as a significant milestone in his teaching career. “I have the honour to appreciate the Almighty God for making it possible for me to be the first-ever winner of the prestigious Overall Best Most Outstanding ICT-Driven Educator in Africa,” he said.

“The sky is our starting point. To God be the glory,” Ifetike added.

The continental award adds to an impressive record of recognition for the teacher. In January 2026, Ifetike was named the Overall Best Performing Teacher in the South-East at the National Teachers Summit.

His back-to-back recognitions underscore his commitment to innovative teaching and the effective use of Information and Communication Technology to enhance learning outcomes and classroom engagement.

As a technical teacher, Ifetike also represents the potential of vocational and technical education to produce educators who combine practical knowledge, digital skills and innovative approaches to teaching.

The achievement further highlights the importance of continuous professional development and equipping teachers with relevant digital competencies to prepare learners for an increasingly technology-driven world.

The recognition is expected to inspire more teachers across Anambra State to embrace technology, continuous learning and innovative teaching methods, while reinforcing the state’s growing reputation for excellence in education.
