Igwebuike Grammar School, Awka, and Army Day Secondary School, Onitsha have emerged as the best schools at the maiden edition of the Anambra Edugames quiz competition. Army Day Secondary school, Onitsha clinched the first position in the Junior category while Igwebuike Grammar School, Awka emerged overall best in the Senior category.
The Commissioner for Education, Prof.Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, speaking at the grande finale of the competition held at ASUBEB Hall, Awka, commended the students for the knowledge they exhibited at the competition.
She called on students to befriend their books if they desired to be successful in life. “You are as great as the number of books you have read; if you want to be great in life, you have to befriend your books,” she said.
Prof.Chuma-Udeh equally commended the facilitator of the Edugames App for the innovation he introduced to the Anambra educational space adding that the games have made learning a fun affair, causing students to be fully engaged in educational activities while online.
She called on teachers in Anambra State to train students who would not rely on fraudulent means to pass exams while stressing that teachers should not abet students in such acts as history would never be kind to such teachers.
Reacting, the state winner in the Senior Secondary category, Master Aniafuna Echezona Paschal of Igwebuike Grammar School, Awka thanked the Ministry of Education for organizing the competition. He further added that participating in the games has improved his overall performance in school.
Anambra Edugames is an educational game app designed in line with the current school curriculum and WAEC, NECO, and JAMB past questions. The games were designed to improve and enhance learning and steer youths toward meaningful and educative activities online.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of gifts to the winners by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Chuma-Udeh.
