Education Ministry Reaffirms Commitment to Drug-Free Society - Anambra Ministry of Education

The Anambra State Ministry of Education has reiterated its commitment to partnering with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

Representing the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ekene Ogugua, at the 2026 United Nations Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Education, Dr. Christian Chukwuemeka, emphasized that tackling substance abuse is a shared responsibility that requires the collective efforts of government, families, schools, communities, and other stakeholders.

Speaking on this year’s theme, “The World Drug Problem: Persisting Issues, New Challenges, Innovative Responses,” the Commissioner noted that drug abuse remains a serious threat to the future of young people and pledged the Ministry’s continued partnership in promoting drug-free schools and communities.

The event, organized by the Anambra State Command of the NDLEA, also featured renewed calls for parents and communities to play active roles in preventing drug abuse, as well as the presentation of awards to winners of the 12th Lady Victoria/Chito Onyido Annual NDLEA Quiz Competition.

Together, we can protect our children, safeguard our communities, and build a healthier, drug-free Anambra.
