NOCEN Academic Union calls for a review of staff welfare

Nwafor Orizu College of Education Academic Staff Union has called on the State Government to look into the welfare of the staff of the Institution. The Union made this call during a meeting with the Commissioner of Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma -Udeh at the State Secretariat Complex, Awka. Addressing members of the Union, Prof Chuma -Udeh urged them to exercise patience with the administration as it just got into office,adding that issues raised would be attended to in no time.

“This a new government that just assumed office barely three months is at its early stage and I urge you to give it time to settle down and matters would be resolved amicably,she stated.
Earlier,the Chairman of the Union,Comrade Ugochukwu Ughaerumba,in his address stated that they are not getting the total emolument,stressing that the need to constantly upgrade their knowledge through research, conferences,and symposiums on current trends in the education sector is taking a toll on them financially.

He called on government to implement the consequential adjustment of the new minimum wage regarding staff salary. Comrade Ughaerumba further called for government intervention in the affairs of the school as the management is financially handicapped to address the myriad problem facing the Institution.
