The Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma -Udeh has stated that the cardinal objective of this administration is to empower Anambra pupils with practical skills that will make them self reliant,contributing positively to the development of the state. The Commissioner stated this during her briefing at the 2022 Revised Budget defense before the House Committee on Budget at Awka.
Speaking further, Prof Ngozi Chuma -Udeh stated that in order to achieve this objective,this mode of teaching would start from primary school level so that even at such tender age pupils are equipped with self sustaining skills.
Prof. Chuma-Udeh stated that ministry intends to embark on continuous upgrade of teachers aimed at equipping them with the skills needed to transits from the traditional mode of teaching,embracing the new, leading to students that are thoroughly equipped to thrive in the society on leaving the four walls of the schools.
She equally noted that the upgrade would not be limited to the teachers already in the system as teachers coming in through the 2022 teacher’s recruitment exercise would undergo this training before they are released to classrooms.
Reacting, Hon Ejike Okechukwu, member representing Anaocha constituency ll lauded the initiative, stating that he is a staunch advocate of skill based education where students are not just filled with theoretical knowledge but are also rich in practical skills needed to implement and execute such knowledge. Hon. Ejike Okechukwu, urged the Commissioner to ensure that the initiative does not remain on paper but effectively stepped down for the good of Anambra pupils and the state at large.
