Nwafor Orizu College of Education,Nsugbe (NOCEN) in affiliation with University of Nigeria Nsukka,(UNN) marks 25th marticulation ceremony. Over 700 students were inducted during the ceremony for the purpose of completing the admission process into the Bachelor of Education degree and National Certificate of Education programme of the institutions.
Addressing the marticulants, at Nwafor Orizu College of Education Nsugbe, the Commissioner for Education ,Prof Ngozi Chuma – Udeh commended the students for choosing the teaching profession.
“Teaching is a noble profession.I am proud to be a teacher and if given the opportunity would become a teacher again in my next life “, she enthused.
She charged the students, ” to be obedient, trustworthy,ethical and above all know they are going to be teachers and teachers are people worthy of emulation”.
“Education is the bridge between communities and their future. You are right there in the middle bridging the gap between nature and nuture because you have come to learn how to teach future generations”. “You are in the most important space of life and I want you to know you are here to learn how to manage, how to steer,how to direct and redirect the consciousness of future generations towards positivity ,so you are not here for jokes,”she stated.
Prof.Chuma-Udeh assured the students of the present administration’s commitment to education and students of education. “The Governor is committed to making sure that you have a wonderful passage through college”, she affirmed.
In his address,the Vice Chancellor of University of Nigeria Nsukka, Prof.Charles A.Igwe, who was represented by the Dean , Faculty of Education,UNN, Prof Joshua.E.Umeifekwem, told the matriculants their admission signified the realization of an aspiration, “earning a Bachelor of Education Degree” from the University.
He however stated in order to to obtain the degree they need to work harder than they did to get admitted in the first place. “There is no room for examination malpractice at the University and its affiliates and stringent punishment awaits offenders”, he warned.
The Vice Chancellor encouraged the students to take advantage of the support system available in the college to find solutions to challenges they might have in the course of their study. Earlier,the Provost of Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Dr Ifeyinwa Osegbo, while congratulating the matriculating students, stated, “the objective of the matriculation exercise is to acquaint freshers with the fundamental principles,norms and culture of the lnstitution”.
“These core values has projected our institution as a centre of excellence for learning and character building”. Dr Osegbo called on the students to note,” they are only permitted to join associations and groups registered with and recognised by the College Student Affairs Unit”.
She warned, “the college does not accept or permit the activities of any antisocial groups operating on the campus. In particular,memberships of cult groups is prohibited and offenders will be summarily dealt with according to law”.
She encouraged the students to be security conscious as the society is becoming more evil and unsecure,adding they should live by the slogan on security, “if you see something ,say something”, and report any suspicious activities in or outside the college.
Among those present at the occasion was the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Education,Dr.Mrs Nwando Obiano
Highlight of the occasion was taking of the matriculation oath and declaration of loyalty by the newly admitted students.
